POSITION: Monterey Baptist Church, a Bible-believing congregation of over 50 years, welcomes full and part-time/bi-vocational applicants for the sacred office of Senior Pastor.

OUR CHURCH: Monterey Baptist Church is a rural congregation situated 30 miles east of Cincinnati, Ohio. We are a self-governed church that shares affiliation with the Southern Baptist Convention, and work in cooperation with the State Convention of Baptists in Ohio and the Cincinnati Area Baptist Association.

QUALIFICATIONS:
The pastor is responsible to the church for effectively proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ, for using his skills in administrative leadership, and for engaging in pastoral care ministries to meet the needs of persons in the church and in the community. He will implement church policies and practices as outlined in the church constitution, and will shepherd with maturity as a model servant of his congregation, his family, and his community.

Responsibilities of the Pastor:
  • Set as a guideline of personal behavior the standard required in 1 Timothy 3:1-7, 1 Peter 5:1-4, and Titus 1:5-9
  • Proclaim the Word of God in a regular pulpit ministry
  • Maintain a regular program of study to enable himself to plan and conduct meaningful worship services
  • Facilitate the contact and visitation of church members, as well as visitation and care for hospitalized and grieving members
  • Conduct premarital, vocational, family, bereavement, counseling sessions, etc., as needed. Advise other professional help when necessary.
  • Work with deacons, church officers, and committees in performing assigned responsibilities
  • Oversee church discipline and manage conflict in the church. Seek to reconcile relationships and promote unity within the church
  • Act as moderator for church business meetings
Special Qualifications:
  • Converted and called to the pastoral ministry
  • Proven love for the fellowship of a local church
  • Ability to empathize with the deep concerns of the congregation
  • Committed and able to monitor the spiritual pulse of the congregation through review and accountability
  • Special care and concern for the worship service’s appeal to faithful longtime members of the congregation, as well as relevance to new visitors, young adults, and young families
Minimum Training and Experience:
A Bachelor’s degree in Theology, Religious, Biblical Studies, or a related field is preferred; or five years of equivalent experience in a relevant field
